What are vector files?
When you work digitally, there are two types of image files: raster and vector. Both types of images can be saved with a number of different file extensions. It's important to understand when to use each image type and file extension best for specific situations.

Vector files are images built using mathematical formulas that set points on a grid. Raster files consist of blocks of color commonly called pixels. Vector files can be infinitely resized without losing resolution, vector files are more flexible for certain types of tasks than Raster files.

Popular vector files:
.ai: Short for Adobe Illustrator, this file is often used in print media and digital graphics, such as logos, posters, banners, backdrops, backgrounds...

.eps: Encapsulated PostScript is an older type of vector graphics file. .eps files do not support transparency the way more modern file formats like .ai do.

.pdf: Portable Document Format built for document exchange between platforms and editable in Adobe Acrobat.

.svg: Scalable Vector Graphics format based on XML (a markup language widely used on the Internet that is readable by both machines and humans). It is useful for the web, where it can be indexed, searched, and scripted.

.cdr: Abbreviation for Corel Draw software - graphic design software similar to Adobe Illustrator. CDR file is the standard, default file of Corel Draw. Corel Draw software is widely used in advertising design, exporting printing files, cutting advertising text, cutting CNN...
